The Bleachers

A BRIEF RUN DOWN

The Bleachers is located in Brisbane, Australia and is directed by Artist and Graphic Designer, Mel Baxter.

The Summer ’12 Collection is The Bleachers first ever series and is inspired by the animal world, the fanciful and the Australian Summer.

There are 10 original designs per season and only 100 shirts per design.

Each piece is carefully hand-painted with a small amount of bleach - the result is a stripping back of black to reveal a warm light tone. The design is permanent and soft and measures are taken to preserve consistency with each painted design.

With each piece being hand-painted and a part of a limited edition, it’s unlikely you’ll ever come across someone with the same tee.

Our t-shirts really are for the hardcore t-shirt and design lover.

Every shirt is crafted from 150gsm 100% combed cotton, featuring scooped necks and slim lines.

All shirts are made to order and take 24-48hrs until they are completed and shipped to you.

Shipping within Australia is free and will take 3-7 days.

Because the bleach can have long-term effects on the fabric if not cared for - hand washing is highly recommended.

THE FINE PRINT FROM MEL

I'm a little bit fascinated by bleach, as you can probably tell by the colour of my hair.

The idea for The Bleachers came from a desire to enliven some of my tired old clothes.

I thought about bleaching jeans and tie-dying shirts, using permanent markers to create designs on pockets and spray-painting stencils onto plain dresses.

Through my clothing-refurbishing journey I discovered the magic of bleach. I then focused all of my attention on refining the processes and techniques involved.

I did some serious hunting for the perfect styled t-shirt for both women and men and started practising.

A lot of time, energy and patience goes into the preliminary stages of getting the t-shirt ready to accept the bleach. Once that's done, the shirt is set up on an easel and the paintbrushes come out.

I've always had a strong passion for bridging the gap between the creative industries, whether it be music and design or fashion and art.

I hope you enjoy the designs and for any questions, queries, feedback, ideas, commissions or just a 'hi' - please do not hesitate to contact: info@theofficialbleachers.com
